Finally, we know why Kites is called Kites. Producer Rakesh Roshan and director Anurag Basu, makers of Kites, one of the most eagerly awaited romantic films of this summer disclose the inspiration behind their film’s title.

“The idea for Kites came to me when I was gazing at the sky and saw two kites flying,”. It looked very romantic. It was very intriguing – the way they came close, played, almost embraced each other and then drew apart. Unaware that someone else was pulling the strings and could cut them loose. I sat down and penned a story around this idea.” notes Rakesh Roshan.

“Kites is a metaphor in the film. Kites fly against the wind and not with it, stronger the wind blows, higher they fly,” adds Anurag Basu who penned the screenplay and directed the film.

Produced by Rakesh Roshan and to be released worldwide by Reliance BIG Pictures, Kites is directed by Anurag Basu. It stars Hrithik Roshan and the Mexican star Barbara Mori along with Kangana Ranaut, Kabir Bedi and Nick Brown.

It’s no surprise that stardom at a young age has its cost. We’ve seen stars on downward spirals for a long time; Britney, Lindsay and many more. So apart from some mighty strange rumours that have been doing the rounds about Annie of late, the one that we have plucked midair and chosen to dwell on is her collaborating with Atif on a song (or songs if we are really lucky) called ‘Rootho Na’ on Shoaib Mansoor’s film Bol. Now that is a prospect that truly makes us happy, as Atif and Annie are two people who could get away with musical murder. And to be absolutely fair, the song ‘Tenu Takya’ she had featured on a couple of years ago had been quite catchy and she sounded in tune on it. Putting Atif and Annie together is such a stroke of genius that we have permanently crossed our fingers for this to be actually true.

According to our source, “Kushal will be seen for a single episode. He will play the childhood friend of the protagonist Balu Kumar (Sunil Grover). The guy is very perfect when it comes to his look and charisma”.

When contacted, Kushal Punjabi confirmed the news and said, “Yes, I am in Gutur Gu for an episode. I am a guy full of attitude; I come to meet my childhood friend Balu. His family likes me, and I take this as an advantage and start hitting at Balu’s wife. There is also a dance sequence wherein Balu tries to copy my steps, but ends up looking really funny”.

Kushal will also be seen in an episode of Sony’s Rishta.com.

He has recently started his own business; he now owns a restaurant and pub. The actor is also working on starting an import export business.

Rohit Roy

As reported earlier, the show will have a group of 8-9 girls who will have to slog it out and earn their money in a remote village. The shoot of the same will happen in a village near Chandigarh. The crew is to leave for the outdoor shoot in few days’ time.

According to our source, “The channel and production house have approached Rohit Roy to host the show. The actor in all probability has accepted the offer”.

We had reported earlier that Kashmera Shah, Monica Bedi, Payal Rohatgi, Sambhavna Seth have been approached for the show.

As per our source, “Kashmera had got two offers in her hand, and was contemplating choosing the best. She has now given her nod for Desi Girl”. The latest is that Payal and Sambhavna Seth have not taken up the show.

In addition to the names mentioned above, Rucha Gujrati too has been approached to participate in the show. “Rucha will most probably accept the offer”, adds our source.

Rohit Roy appeared clueless and asked us to explain the concept of the show. When we did that he exclaimed, “I would love to host such a show. But it is not me who is doing it”.

Rucha Gujrati told us, “I will not be able to talk on this now. You will know in few weeks’ time”.

Therefore it should come as no surprise if Madonna has decided to step into another field to try to work her magic into taking over the fashion scene of Hollywood as well. Madonna officially announced the launch of her new brand “MG Icon” which she is a joint venture with another brand Iconix, and also her longtime manager, Guy Oseary.

“Joining forces with Iconix to bring my fashion ideas to consumers is very exciting for me,” Madonna said in a statement to Access Hollywood. “I look forward to working closely with Neil (Cole of Iconix) and his team to create and translate my vision and ideas for MG Icon.”

She also said that MG Icons’ first collection, “Material-Girl” will be available at Macy’s stores in August 2010. What’s also interesting is that the collection seems fairly affordable for many, as it ranges from pieces worth $12 to $40.

This seems to be an exciting new step for her, and Madonna is looking forward to presenting her collection. However, one cannot help but feel a slight hesitation as to what the collection may look like, keeping in mind Madonna’s extraordinary sense of style.

Pankit Thakkar aka Dr. Atul

Dr. Atul was shown along with the new interns as he had earlier failed to complete his internship. His character provided some fantastic comic relief, and his jodi with Dr. Anjali (Sunaina Gulia) gathered lot many fans.

According to our source, “Dr. Atul will not be seen in Dill Mil Gaye now. The tracks that are expected will see some high drama scenes, and it was a creative decision to drop the character of Dr. Atul from the show. The story will now focus on Sid (Karan Wahi), Riddhima (Jennifer Winget) and Armaan (Karan Singh Grover) chemistry.

When contacted, Pankit confirmed the news and said, “Yes, I am no longer shooting for the show”.

One of the big launches of Star Plus will be an untitled fiction show produced by UTV.

The success of Pavitra Rishta which is actually a remake of a very popular Tamil serial, Thirumathi Selvam has in fact given a green signal for production houses to attempt many such remakes from down South.

As per our source, “The show which will be produced by UTV for Star Plus is also a remake of a famous Tamil serial. It will be a social drama set in the backdrop of Maharashtra. It is about a girl who has to face a whole new set of challenges. The channel and production house are tight-lipped about the concept, as this will be one of the major launches. Auditions for the show have just started”.

We tried calling Mayuree Chaddha, Fiction Head, UTV and even sent her a text message, but she remained unavailable.

UTV had produced the first season of Dance India Dance for Zee TV.
